Risk Assessment Progress

I have started to do some of the risk assessments and have gotten a few of the risks identified and about half the locations assessed.

Treatment/Pitch feedback

Treatment:

For our music video we chose the song “I got this” by Jay Park. The genre of the song is Hip Hop. Our target audience is mainly female as the artist is male, however the song is from the genre Hip Hop which is quite a popular genre amongst all people, so we are also able to have males as our secondary target audience.

With the song being written by a Korean artists we have decided to do the costume/clothing style based about Korean fashion to do with R&B and hip hop fashion in Korea. This will suit the aesthetic and theme of the song better and makes the actor fit in better with the song.

The song is a personal song to the artists and talks mostly about his life so for our concept we will mostly be focusing on the artists. We will use various shots which features the artists and use multiple close ups to capture their emotions and feelings. He will be at different locations to look at the surroundings of himself.

For filming we are thinking of mainly using natural lighting as most of our shots will be locations shots meaning we will be outside and we would not have lights on hand to film with. This means we must plan out our shoots very well and take into consideration the times we film and how much light we will have during the day or evening. We also need to check the weather so that the lighting is not too dull or bright and to keep the shots we take consistent.  If we film during the evening we need to consider how much lighting we will have from the surrounding area with the street lights or store lights, so that it is not too dark when we are shooting. While shooting our actor is the centre of attention, so majority of the shots will feature him standing in the middle to make him the main point of focus.

We did not get much feedback, however from what we were asked it seemed like we needed to make our idea slightly clearer. We can show this clearly by creating a storyboard to illustrate what will be happening in our music video. This can be done through our pre-production work. With the concept we’re going for we would have to show a lot of emotion through our shots for the viewers to understand what is going on. As we’re going to be doing the same thing throughout our music video, with the actor just lip syncing we would have to have a wide range of shots to keep the music video interesting and relevant. We would also have to focus on our editing techniques and transitions to keep the music video flowing well. By keeping our music video to one actor it will significantly make filming easier, as we wouldn’t have to plan around the schedule with a big group of people. Furthermore our actor has a flexible schedule so it is also convenient for us.

The considerations we would have to make for our music video is that there is swearing in our video. We would have to look at watershed and the appropriate times we could broadcast our song in the UK. With OFCOM (office of communications) there are regulations which are generated to protect younger viewers from content that is deemed inappropriate for them. For the UK the watershed is 9pm – 5:30am so we would only broadcast our song at these times either on television or on the radio. In other cases if we do want to broadcast the song during daytime we could use an audio editor to bleep out the swear words, this would also be useful to do if we want to broadcast the song worldwide.

We will use social media to promote and broadcast our song. The majority of our target audience are young and are very active on social media. So by broadcasting our song through social media we would essentially be directing our attention at them. Furthermore artists tend to broadcast and promote their songs online and it is where most striving artists are discovered. Although the artists we have chosen is already quite well known he is seen as a more popular idol in Korea and Asia rather than in the western world. So broadcasting our song through platforms like YouTube, snapchat, sound cloud etc. would be helpful as most western audiences use these social media platforms.

Group Video idea

The song we have chosen for our music video is "I got this" by Jay Park. We have already planned who we will choose as the male actor for our music video.

Practice music video

The day before we used Canon cameras to film footage for a practice music video. We filmed using a tripod and filmed 3 different shots, which were a long shot, mid shot and a close up. We adjusted the white balance by setting it to the daylight setting on the menu of the camera, however as it was really bright and sunny outside we had to change the aperture too otherwise it would have been too bright.

After filming we uploaded the clips onto the computer and imported them onto Premier Pro, where we edited them. We cut at points where the movements and lip syncing matched with the song and the next clip they were transitioning to. We used the variety of shots we had in different places, we did not just use one shot for a long period of time in the video. After putting the shots together we wanted to create a more cute effect so we used an effect call 'fast colour corrector', using colour grading we gave our video a pink tint. We also were able to add in a GIF of some hearts and move it to where we wanted with the position setting, however with our limited amount of time we were not able to remove the white background from the GIF.

Overall the cutting of the video was quite smooth and the actions in the video matched the song quite well, if we had more time we could have added more GIFS and removed the backgrounds to them.

Dancing on the moon by Jessica

This song is quite upbeat, happy and a bit calming. For the concept of this video I was thinking of a girl (the singer) trying to seduce a guy she likes. The video shows her taking the guy to various and doing various activates, like roller-skating and chasing one another. The video talks about stars and the moon so near the end of the video it would be good to see the characters go star gazing together on a hill. There can be a scene where the moon is projected in the background and the girl is dancing alone at the beginning of the video but at the end she is dancing with the guy, which relates to the lyrics “we could be dancing on the moon”. The video will mostly be filmed on daylight and will use bright colours to create a happy atmosphere. Locations which can be used are, grassy fields, sidewalks or the beach. There will be two actors which is a guy and a girl. The actors will wear casual clothing, maybe summer clothing as the song seems more like a summer song. The song is not very slow so there will be some fast-paced cuts, which might be focused at the chorus as the tempo of the song speeds up at this part. My video with mostly be a visual video, so there will only be a bit of lip syncing. 

Say something by Dean

This song mostly uses acoustics and has a very soft sound. It sounds like a song you would put on when you’re relaxing. So I want to create a relaxed atmosphere. The music video will look like a very casual day. It will feature one actor, it will show their everyday life of what they’re doing on a lazy day, whilst they’re continuously checking their phone. There will be shots of them lying on a coach reading and playing with a cat with a fat forward time-frame. They will be wearing casual comfy clothing like jumpers and jeans, to show how relaxed and comfortable they’re. The video should be shot in black and white or with warm tones. The video will consist of them checking their phone and looking out the window to relate to the lyrics “darling won’t you say something”, to show they’re bored and waiting for someone to contact them. The location will be based inside a house in the lounge, hallways and a bedroom. Props will include phones and usual household items. The video will be very stationary and now too many camera movements will be used to create a time lapse and relaxed effect, almost as if the camera is too lazy to move too.

Idea of you by Arty (featuring Eric Nam)

This song uses EDM and a bit of acoustics. There is quite a heavy beat in this song but it is also quite calm. For this song, I was thinking of having a guy (the singer) visit different places, where a flash back of him and his lover will be shown. The video will follow him from morning to night time, and at one point he will be looking pictures of his past on his phone. This will relate to the lyrics “Do I miss you? Or do I miss the idea of you?”. At the end of the video he will visit one last destination where he sees his lover and reaches out towards them. The track is quite fast paced, I was thinking of using a steady cam to film parts of the video when they guy is running to show the shakiness and confusion of his emotions. Natural lighting and low-key lighting will be used in the video as it features daytime and night-time. The flashbacks will use light colours creating a dream like effect. For locations, I was thinking of places where people would go on dates, like parks, cafes or a pier. There will be two actors, one who is the sing and one who plays their partner. As it is a fast-paced song the editing will have lots of fast cuts to make the video look smother with the song. My video will be different from the flashbacks that will be used for the video, whilst it is following the story of the character and is not just telling the story of the two lovers.
