Response:
Research:
For our research we looked at other music videos in similar
genres, like Sik k Party. From these music videos we took inspiration from them
and looked at the shots we may use that are similar to the ones they use in the
music videos. We also looked at what was happening in the music videos to give
us a rough idea of what we wanted our actor to do in our music video too.
Logistics planning:
For our location release forms it would have been better to
start emailing the owners of the location as soon as we had a rough idea. This
is because we have been getting slow email replies which interrupted our
initial plans on the days we wanted to film. Therefore we have had to
reschedule our shooting days. We made a group chat on our phones where we would
discuss about what we were doing and some of the ideas and when we could film
together. We would use the group chat when we were outside of lessons so we
could discuss our ideas rather than waiting until our next lesson. However it
was useful that we had our locations, shots, and call sheets planned out as
this means that if we were to change any of our plans we could just alter these
documents slightly and would not have to re write them all up. Furthermore with
these planned out all we have to do is plan out the filming schedules, making
it more efficient for us.
Narrative planning:
We made a storyboard to illustrate what was going to happen
in our music video so that we knew what kind of shots we wanted and what we
wanted to show through our music video. Our music video does not tell a story
so it is more concept based. Through our music video it is mainly the actor lip
syncing to the song. To make our music video interesting we decided on a
variation of shots and transitions to use. This can be seen in our storyboard. Compared
to our initial planning which was just written up, we had a clearer idea of
what we wanted to do when we created the storyboard as we were able to
visualise what was happening. We also were able to add more details to what was
going to happen, like what the actor was going to wear at the locations and the
lighting we would use, whether it would be during daytime or night time.
For our time management I think there could be improvements
to it. As only one member of our group can contact the actor it is a bit
inefficient not knowing when the actor is free or when they’re not and we
usually only find out a few days before filming. Luckily with our locations,
shots and costumes planned out we only need to figure out if the members of the
group will be available for filming and make minors changes to some of the
initial plans or documents.
Evaluation:
Compared to making the music magazine I have found it quite
challenging to work as a group as I have to reschedule around the groups
schedule. Furthermore I need to communicate more with who is doing what task in
the group and having to double check if everyone is doing their part in the
group. I can’t do things at my own pace as I have to comply with the deadlines
we set in the group so that we can have all our work organised. However working
as a group I do have less workload compared to when I was making the music
magazine, where I had to do everything myself.
Compared to last year I think I have not used enough
technologies to present my work as I have just typed up all the work on a word
document and sent it to my fellow groupmates rather than put it in a different
form of media, as I feel like it would be easier for my group members to
understand. I think for the rest of the project it would be useful to start
putting my work in different forms of creative technology.
